Normandy combines the Augeron bocage, the silty plateaus of Pays de Caux and the Caen plain, with deep silt-clay soils at pH 6.6. France's leading textile flax region, it also intensively grows silage maize for its Normande and Prim'Holstein dairy herds. The cool oceanic climate (17.3°C summer, 293 frost-free days) limits heat-demanding crops but secures yields in dry years thanks to the silt water-holding capacity.
