Cfb — oceanic temperate
Hauts-de-France brings together two top-tier agricultural landscapes: the cereal Picardy (Soissonnais, Vermandois, Santerre) and the silty soils of Pas-de-Calais extended by coastal polders. The temperate oceanic climate (17.2°C summer, 2.9°C winter, 742 mm/year) and the long frost-free period (276 days) have made this the most productive region in Europe for sugar beet, potatoes and soft wheat. Maize is expanding, driven by dairy and pork farming. For sunflower, the zone remains marginal — 903 GDD limit variety choice to ultra-early types on the best plots. Laboulet offers Hauts-de-France FAO 100–120 maize hybrids calibrated for short seasons, spring oilseed linseed suited to rich silts, and early sunflower trials on well-exposed southern plots.
