Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes aggregates agricultural ecosystems of rare diversity: Limagne plain (black soils among France's most fertile), Ain plain, Rhône valley, Beaujolais vineyards, Massif Central plateaus and Alpine valleys. With 1,111 average GDD, 251 frost-free days and loamy soils at pH 6, the region grows at large scale irrigated grain maize (Limagne, Rhône valley), wheat, sugar beet, and holds numerous wine and dairy PDOs (Beaufort, Saint-Marcellin). Laboulet offers here a balanced range: mid-early maize for the plains, ultra-early for altitude, early sunflowers for Drôme and Ain, and oilseed linseed for diversified Bourbonnais rotations.
